Heavy Soul

Heavy Sould

Dakota Thompson has became a real life junkie, and gets treatment - for her addiction of drinking human blood!

Israeli director Oren Shai gives a great example how the stylishness can sometimes get the film going, even if the script is not truly memorable. The carefully planned and crafted 50's imagery adds a lot to overall atmosphere, which is spiced up with great rockabilly performance by Pete Ludovico and parody of those old teenage education films. And of course a superb use of colors and lighting, that really makes "Heavy Soul" an unique and qualified short film.

Like mentioned before, the story itself is maybe not so important, but I sure would like to see Oren Shai making a feature film that would mix a decent screenplay with his definite skills of creating atmosphere - and making unknown actors and actresses to give 100 percent of their talents. Oren Shai has chosen a very capable cast, and most memorable are Guil Fisher as Dr. Lombardy and of course vulnerable looking Sally Conway as Dakota.

Heavy SoulI hope "Heavy Soul" gives a boost to Oren Shai's career. In these days when virtually everyone has a chance to make a film (which itself is a great thing), it's easy to point out where the talent is. Right now I point out Oren Shai.
