The Second Best Science Fiction Movie Ever Made tells a story about eight abducted astronauts, who make a comeback to earth, along with their brand new supernatural powers. Only "but" there is that they have only two hours to spend time here on their former home planet. These two hours contain a lot of confrontations, since they have some unfinished businesses to solve. Epstein's debut feature film has a nice start with an interesting and funny character presentation, fast pace (there is a lot of running!) and just great, cheapo special effects that fit into context nicely. The big headed doctor is a riot! The main location of the film is some peaceful and sunny American suburb. There aren't many people around, so the atmosphere doesn't feel that natural. It is almost like a zombie film setting with a dead town feel, but without a real purpose. The amateur actors and actresses of whom many are probably the friends of cast & crew, don't act groundbreakingly magnificently, but you can't really expect that from the campy sci-fi comedy. Still, the child actors & actresses should be very proud of their work here.
I will wait for the David M. Epstein's next film, simply because The Second Best Science Fiction Movie Ever Made has a lot of good stuff in it. I just believe that in a movie with a simpler storyline, his talents will show more efficiently. ![]()

The Second Best Science Fiction Movie Ever Made is just a great title. Director, writer and producer David M. Epstein has crafted an original sci-fi comedy with a low budget, but has used the little money with creative ways.
Biggest problem of The Second Best Science Fiction Movie Ever Made is the story, which has too much going on. The plot isn't focusing on interesting things. There is a lot of talk, but for too many times the dialogue seems just an excuse for a longer duration, or to place directors friends in a movie. 104 minutes is way too long for The Second Best Science Fiction Movie Ever Made.
