Pregnant lady Ana and her husband Andres are driving with their car in the streets of their hometown. Beside them drives an another couple, who are staring right at them. The man of this odd couple, soon presents himself as Andres' old schoolmate Bruno - but the latter doesn't recall him. After a brief talk, Andres and Ana take a visit to Bruno's and his wife Bertha's remote castle where the satanic truth begins to reveal little by little.

This method of "revealing little by little" works rather well all the way to the 50 percent of running time, but after that the events start to stuck badly. In the end, there luckily comes another dose of satisfying scenes of occult horror. Satan's Blood resembles Rosemary's Baby, in some of it's elements but never comes even close the paranoid world of Polanski. Despite that, the certain scenes are definitely impressive. Satan's Blood contains a lot of sex, but it is not the raison d'etre. The use of explicit sexual imagery fits perfectly to rest of the picture. Director Puerto has used also the esthetics of old haunted house horror movies to upkeep the suspense.

The illogical elements do not matter in the long run, since the atmosphere is the main reason this film exists. Hypnotic music (that almost resembles the music of rock band Neurosis) makes the group sex scene feel effectivelly sinful and satanic. But every now and then, there are scenes are just plain silly. Besides that, some successful solutions could have needed more explanation. To understand some of this film background, one must know that the producer of Satan's Blood is semi-legendary Juan Piquer Simon - the man behind Extra Terrestrial Visitors (aka Return of E.T.) and Pieces.

The Mondo Macabro DVD release contains also the documentary called "The Devil's Disciples", where Gavin Baddeley (of Church of Satan) tells about the occult horror and its satanic themes. You can see the funny alternative epilogue to Satan's Blood. The picture quality is very good and the otherwise happy viewer doesn't mind the minor scrathes in the print.
